The Most Commonly Repaired HVAC Parts: Part One

HVAC units are complicated pieces of machinery, and it can be disconcerting to hear the technical language from your New Castle County HVAC repair technician, but many of these parts are relatively simple and inexpensive fixes. Let’s look at some of these items and the role they play in your New Castle County HVAC system:

    1. Filters – Filters capture and remove dust and dirt particles from the air that travels through your system, preventing that debris from clogging your system. They should be changed or cleaned regularly to prevent breakdowns of your unit. Dirty filters also restrict the airflow through your unit, forcing it to work harder, making it less efficient and leading to premature breakdown.
    2. Thermostat – This device instructs the HVAC system when to run and for how long, and whether to produce hot or cold air. We often find that thermostat problems are simply from them accidentally being turned off or put on the wrong setting. Thermostats can lose calibration, however, causing them not to meet the proper temperature. We can recalibrate your thermostat or replace it with a new smart thermostat.
    3. Contactors – Your unit contains three contactors: one for the compressor, one for the blower motor, and one for the condenser fan motor. The contactors form an electrical connection when there is a need for cooling or heating, starting the compressor and motors. The contactors can form arcing or pitting, making it hard for the electrical current to start the particular motor.
    4. Gas valve – The gas valve regulates the flow from your gas line to your unit and is generally only used during the winter months when your heat is running. It is possible for the gas valve to become corroded and then it will need to be replaced.

Gold Star: Safe, Reliable HVAC Repairs in New Castle County

”Woke up this morning to a very cold house and realized there was something wrong with my heating system. … I did some research online for local HVAC companies and saw Gold Star and their high grade on the BBB website. … Called around 11:00 Saturday morning and was told they would schedule a technician. To my surprise, 15 minutes later I was contacted by Shane, the owner, and told he would be here once he finished his current service call. Indeed, within 45 minutes Sean was at my door. He was able to quickly determine the cause of my problem, quoted me a price and made the repair. Within 30 minutes he was on his way to his next call. Very professional, honest, and thorough. Would recommend Gold Star without hesitation.”
